In this kitchen we first decluttered diligently and then renovated. A great before and after effect!
The Challenge
In this kitchen in a Berlin Altbau, a lot of superfluous things have accumulated in recent years. It therefore seems overcrowded and confusing. We have already rearranged the bookshelf with this client. In addition, the living room was decluttered and even a breakthrough to the kitchen was made. Now the customer also wants more space and order in his open kitchen.
The solution: Organize the kitchen
1. Upper cabinets
We started this kitchen-organization-project at the very top, namely on the upper cabinets. We took down all the pieces parked there to inspect them. Most things have been unused for years, so the client immediately discards things like the old microwave and gives it away.
Food & tableware
Then it was time too look at the inner workings of the cabinets. Here, too, food was sifted through and rearranged. To ensure that the new order is maintained for a long time, the shelves will be labeled with “Pasta & sauces” or “Breakfast”.
When it comes to tableware, we sorted out plates, cups and glasses that are either too old-fashioned or too youthful-looking. They are replaced by beautiful drinking glasses like this one from Schott Zwiesel .
3. Countertop
We also reduce the items that live permanently on the countertop. Only regularly used utensils such as a food processor, toaster, coffee machine, selected spices and the kitchen paper roll remain. This also makes the whole kitchen look neater.
The right moment to renovate
After organizing the kitchen, the client was highly motivated to beautify the space even further. I created a mood board for him, with interior ideas and shopping tips.
As mentioned above, the removal of the partition wall during the living room makeover already had a big impact. A small, inconspicuous kitchen has suddenly become a large, bright living-dining area. Perfect for inviting guests and cooking for them!
The walls were given a fresh, white coat of paint. A timeless ceiling lamp from IKEA provides the right lighting ambience in the evening. In addition, new tea towels and potholders in fresh grey and blue are moving in. This is how we achieved a more premium, modern look.
And a clever and inexpensive trick if you don’t want to completely replace a kitchen that is already a bit outdated: attach new handles! At my suggestion, the customer replaces the worn, silver handles with modern black ones.
The before-and-after effect of the kitchen-organization-project
And this is what the client says about the new organization in his kitchen:
“It’s really amazing, what a huge difference! Since my kitchen has been declutterd, it is much neater and also easier to handle. The biggest advantage: I cook much more often, because it’s much more fun with a well-organized and tidy kitchen.”
